A second degree murder charge has been laid in a fatal stabbing that happened in Surrey in December of 2014.
Mounties responded to an early morning fight at a park, but the victim, Jaylen Sandhu, had fled the scene and run to a nearby home for help.
He died in hospital.
Sgt. Stephanie Ashton with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says charges have been laid against an eighteen-year-old, who is a known young offender.
“That’s something that will be before the courts, we did identify a suspect quite early in the investigation as a result of the assistance of witnesses, and also through the process of obtaining forensic evidence we were able to move forward and put this matter through the courts.”
The suspect is making his first court appearance today.
Because he was 17-years-old at the time of the incident, his name is not being released.
Police say the two knew each other.
