First degree murder charges have been laid against two men accused of murdering a B.C. woman and her American husband.
The Snohomish County Sheriff’s office believes the pair are also fleeing to Mexico.
53-year-old John Blaine Reed and his brother, 49-year-old Tony Clyde Reed are suspected of murdering Patrick Shunn and his wife, Monique Patenaude who disappeared last Tuesday.
Court documents released today reveal chilling new details in the lead up to the couple’s disappearance.
The couple had complained to police as far back as 2012 about ex-neighbour John Reed, who they said acted “crazy,” and threatened them. They were also involved in a civil legal disupute.
The county Parks director had also reported that the couple complained Reed was squatting on his former property in the weeks before they disappeared.
Reid’s property had been condemned after the Oso Landslide, and sold to the county – a matter he was reportedly unhappy with.
The documents also reveal the Reed brothers were spotted at the property in the days after the couple disappeared, and that police found blood in John Reed’s truck and his former property.

Dave Wold with the Snohomish County Prosecutors office says the unusual step of charges before arrest is procedural.
“This is [for] the sole purpose of giving us the ability to ask for Arrest Warrants to be issued by the court.”
Police say they believe the men are making a run for the Mexican border.
Investigators say a red Volkswagen linked to the fugitives was discovered in Phoenix Arizona, and they believe the men switched to a gold Acura, which showed up on a license plate reader in Calexico California yesterday.
The Sheriff’s office says its now working with police in Phoenix and U.S. Marshals to track the Reed brothers down.
Investigators and search and rescue teams are still combing a 60 square kilometer area near the missing couple’s home, hoping to find their bodies.

Monique Patenaude was last seen late Monday morning, and Patrick Shunn failed to turn up for work on Tuesday.
Their friends contacted police after Patenaude missed plans for the evening, and the couple’s vehicles disappeared.
Officers say they have surveillance video of the men trying to dispose of the couple’s vehicles — and say evidence recovered at the scene and John Reed’s former home that points to homicide.
Both suspects are convicted felons and are believed to be armed and dangerous.
