North Vancouver RCMP are investigating a bizarre incident where one of their patrol vessels was apparently untied from its moorings and set adrift overnight.
Corporal Geoff Harder says the RCMP vessel Inker was put directly in the path of a Seabus and could’ve had potentially disastrous consequences.
“Potentially could hurt people, it could’ve sunk a vessel, even. The environmental impact of boats colliding and deploying any sort of cargo into the water could be huge.”
Harder says it appears like the two men thought it would be funny.
“I suppose one of the motivations would be mischief.”
There is surveillance video but Harder says Mounties are looking for witnesses or anyone who knows about the prank.
“We can’t identify them from the video, however we’re looking for any information from the public as to what the motivation might be here, or who might’ve perpetrated this instance.”
The vessel was undamaged and towed back to the dock.
Harder says the two men could face charges including criminal negligence and mischief.
