The Vancouver Park Board is moving forward with plans to help refugees with a Leisure Access Program.
Since 1992 , low-income residents have been able to apply for free or subsidized access to Park Board programs and services like Vancouver-area pools, rinks, fitness and community centers.
Now staff are recommending commissioners update the policy to reduce barriers for refugees, immigrants and those who are undocumented.
Staff suggest replacing the word “citizen” with “resident” to be more inclusive.
In response to the Syrian refugee crisis the Board unanimously approved a motion in December to support refugees living in Vancouver.
