Premier Christy Clark is among those mourning the loss of an RCMP officer killed on the job.
“This is a sad day for a lot of us in British Columbia, as we reflect on the sacrifice that Constable Sarah Beckett made through her work.”
In just a few hours, thousands will pay their respects to fallen Constable Sarah Beckett on the streets of Victoria.
She was killed last week when a pick-up truck T-boned her marked police cruiser.
In the Legislature this morning, Premier Clark reflected on the importance of having first responders like Beckett to protect us.
“Thousands of people in British Columbia don a uniform every day and go to work and do the work on our behalf that we do not do, that many of us would not have the courage to do. They take on that job; they know that it’s risky.”
The funeral march will include Beckett’s troop mates, fellow RCMP officers, local police departments, and members of other enforcement agencies.
The funeral service begins at 2pm at the Q Centre.
