Vancouver police have confirmed that high-risk sex offender Jason White was arrested at UBC’s campus early this morning.
Constable Brian Montague says he was nabbed by officers shortly after 3:30am, just blocks away from the campus’ year-end block party where thousands of students were.
What remains unclear though, is if White – a convicted sex offender who was deemed a dangerous offender – has played any role in the recent run of sex assaults over the last few months at UBC’s campus.
White was identified as a person of interest in an attempted home invasion in the Oakridge neighbourhood on Thursday.
Jason Anthony White, also known as Jason Eugene Rindero, was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant.
White had been previously convicted of breaking into a 74-year-old Nanaimo woman’s home in 1994, violently sexually assaulting and robbing her.
Montague tells Global News it’s unknown why White was on campus but will be analyzing his movements from the past few months.
