Vancouver Police say an 86-year-old woman suffered minor injuries after an attempted home invasion last night.
It happened in the Oakridge area near West 45th and Cambie Street when she returned home.
That’s when the suspect approached her from behind and tried to force his way inside the house.
She fought back, sustaining a broken hand, and holding her own until her home alarm went off, scaring the man away.
Vancouver Police Constable Brian Montague.
“She fought him. While she fought with him, the alarm to the house went off, that scared the suspect away. He was last seen headed towards Oakridge Mall. It’s obviously very concerning to us – an attack on an 86 year old woman. Thankfully she wasn’t seriously injured, but she’s obviously extremely upset.”
Police have a photograph of the suspect, and ask for the public’s help in identifying him.
He eventually fled, but police and a K9 unit weren’t able to track him down.
VPD aren’t sure of a motive.
