The Chair of the Vancouver School Board is vowing to vote against this year’s budget with millions of dollars in cuts and risk being fired.
Mike Lombardi says while the budget deficit has been knocked down to $24.5-million, the cuts needed to balance the books are unacceptable.
“On April 28th we will be faced with a budget and someone is going to have to move we either move it as it is, amend it, or defeat it. If it is defeated by a majority vote then the Minister has opportunity, and likely will fire us like what happened in 1994.”
Lombardi says with B.C. having the only provincial budget surplus and growing economy in the country, the Provincial government can afford to properly fund education.
By law school boards must pass a balanced budget.
