A former TransLink board member is joining the chorus – calling for toll equity in Metro Vancouver.
Nancy Oleweiler, now a professor at SFU, says tolling all the crossings, or having some kind of road usage charge makes sense.
Oleweiler says it needs to be a little more complex than simply one low charge per crossing.
“If you’re gonna go to tolling, you should go to dynamic pricing, which means you should have the congestion pricing on it. So that would give the truckers a break, so that when they go at 2 in the morning, their toll is zero. If I’m going 8 AM, I’m gonna pay more.”
Oleweiler said if it made sense, and the Province is at the table, it also might be a good idea for TransLink to get out of the roads and bridges business.
