Does your dream job involve craft beer, local wine, and delicious food? Then Steve Thorp is someone you might want to talk to.
Thorp is the Co-Founder and Managing Director of the Settlement Building in Railtown, which includes Postmark Brewing, Vancouver Urban Winery, and Belgard Kitchen.
He describes the building as a “destination place.”
“We like to keep it as an experience that people can explore and find on their own. It’s a collective of lifestyle and manufacturing brands.”
Speaking more about the brands involved in the Settlement Building, Thorp says Vancouver Urban Winery was their original baby. Postmark Brewing and Belgard Kitchen were both started around two years ago.
He says the whole idea behind the Settlement Building is to focus on their guests’ experiences.
“It’s very experience focused, very fun for people who are out of town and experiencing new places in the city.”
Thorp says that part of being an entrepreneur is to be on the lookout for new ideas, and was part of the team that actually brought wine on tap to Vancouver.
“That idea came to Mike (CEO & Co-FOunder of Vancouver Urban Winery) and I about five years ago. We were traveling a lot for a previous job and we saw it happening at all the coolest new lounges, bars, restaurants in New York and San Francisco…seeing wine come out of taps. So we kind of came across this concept and were like ‘Why is nobody doing this in Canada?'”
