Federal politicians gathered in Southern Alberta Friday morning for the funeral of Conservative MP Jim Hillyer.
Okanagan-Coquihalla Tory MP Dan Albas sat beside Hillyer in the House of Commons, and says his death really shook him up.
Albas says Hillyer leaves behind four kids, something he says hit him especially hard.
“I am looking forward to seeing his kids today and letting them know what a kind, gentle man he was. They know that, but how in Ottawa he shook cages while being a respectful person. It takes quite a person to balance that. To try and encourage them to try to live to that example.”
Hundreds of people, including MP’s and former Prime Minister Stephen Harper, will attend Hillyer’s funeral Friday morning.
The 41-year-old died in his Ottawa office from a heart attack March 23rd.
