It didn’t take the Mounties long to get their man.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has announced a 29-year-old Burnaby man has been arrested and charged with second degree murder, in connection with Tuesday afternoon’s discovery of the remains of a woman near Stave Lake in Mission.
Ryan Jack Armstrong is also charged with Indignity to a Human Body.
IHIT Sergeant Stephanie Ashton says there was some great work initially by Mission officers to control the crime scene.
“What it comes down to is that Mission RCMP knew their area. They knew what they needed to get in there, and once they arrived and realized what they were dealing with they very quickly controlled that area, and were also able to make contact with a number of people that were traveling about in the area at the time that they arrived.”
And tips from the public helped as well.
“When we reached out to the public to say. ‘We need your help with anyone who has information, please come forward’, we received numerous tips. The public in the Mission area came forward, provided information, and the consensus of that information was instrumental in helping us move this investigation forward so quickly.”
She says police think it was a targeted killing and the victim and suspect knew each other.
Mission Mounties were called to the area of the Florence Lake Service Road just before 5pm on Tuesday, after receiving a report of human remains being found.
They’ve tentatively identified the victim and need that confirmed by an autopsy.
