Victoria’s Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre has ended it’s involvement in the search for two missing crab fishermen in Port Renfrew after the boaters failed to return yesterday morning.
However theRCMP continue with their search.
The Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre’s Greg Menzies says the JRCC is reducing their search – a decision based on drift models and the amount of time the fishermen have been gone for.”
The RCMP is continuing the search for men who have not been seen they left Port Renfrew Friday
Heavy winds and high waves made the Sunday effort difficult.
“So at approximately 1:30am local time, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre here in Victoria received a call for two missing persons in a 10 foot aluminum boat. They were last seen on Friday.”
Cpl. Menzies says a helicopter and fixed wing plane have already completed one round of searching, while two Coast Guard vessels were sent out on the lookout.
“It’s pretty windy, rough sea states out there. Such weather hampers conditions, but we continued to search Monday.”
They were back out Monday morning before the JRCC
The identities of the fishermen have not been disclosed.
