The latest snapshot of Employment Insurance users from Statistics Canada contains an eye popping stat from Alberta.
From December to January Alberta saw a two-percent jump in people using EI benefits with 63,800 people getting a cheque.
But the year-over-year number is jaw dropping.
From January last year to January this year, the number of people in Alberta using Employment Insurance has jumped 91%.
Here in British Columbia, the number of people on EI dropped slightly last month, with more people working in Abbotsford, Mission, and Vancouver.
The rest of the province remained more or less the same.
Atlantic Canada led the way with the highest month-to-month rise in EI users.
