Fraser Health is warning that ground beef from a Chilliwack butcher shop may be tainted with E. coli.
The health authority says lean and extra lean ground beef sold at Fraser Valley Meats between March 5-8 should not be eaten.
While the affected beef was sold only at the butcher shop, Fraser Health says it inspected the premises and found no food safety issues with how the meat was being prepared.
It is now investigating to determine the source of the bacteria.
No illnesses have been reported, and Fraser Valley Meats has issued a voluntary recall of the affected beef.
Fraser Health says this type of E. coli can cause bloody diarrhea and kidney failure, and that anyone experiencing symptoms within 2-10 days of eating the affected beef should contact a doctor.
