The Prime Minister offered a simple explanation for why big ticket transit and transportation projects in Metro Vancouver didn’t get funding in yesterday’s budget.
Justin Trudeau, appearing on Global BC, said those projects weren’t ready to be built yet.
“Well it is just a recognition that on the biggest projects, whether we talk about LRT out to Surrey or improving the investments into the Broadway line for example, these are things that aren’t ready to get built starting next week.”
Trudeau says those projects need to get done, but they need to be done right.
“There is going to need to be the time taken to move on this rapidly so people can get it but to be done right. That is just a recognition of the fact that we need to be rsponsible about our spending, about our investments, to make sure that they are going to have the best possible impact on Canadians and people in the lower mainland.”
The budget funnels 370-million-dollars for transit projects in Metro Vancouver, which will go to more buses and SkyTrain upgrades.
