Another snowmobile tragedy in the back-country.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Steve LeClair says a 53-year-old Seattle area man died Saturday on the Appa Glacier, near Pemberton.
LeClair says the snowmobiler drove into a large hole in the glacier.
“He went down about 100 feet before stopping, so it’s quite a deep hole”
LeClair says the man was sledding with nine other snowmobilers at the time.
It was one of four snowmobile accidents Whistler Search and Rescue responded to over the weekend.
“The snowmobilers in the fatal incident were well equipped, but in the other cases, the snowmobilers were not, SAR had to attend for a chest injury and two shoulder injuries.”
LeClair wants to remind people of the dangers associated with riding in the back country and the need to be well prepared in case of an emergency.
