A former Maple Ridge Pitt-Meadows elementary school teacher has been found guilty of professional misconduct after, among other things, using the school phone at odd hours for sex chats.
Former grade 4/5 teacher in School District No.42, Darren Hankey, admitted to entering the school late at night to make phone calls to sexual chat lines on 35 occasions between September 2011-March 2013.
He also admits to the inappropriate use of a laptop to store and access 200 explicit images of himself and others.
He also took a colleagues laptop to access websites connecting swingers for sexual purposes in December 2012.
He also lied about his district owned laptop being stolen, took sick days to attend court dates for a domestic violence assault, and forged the school principal’s signature on report cards.
He was given a paid leave of absence in May 2013 pending a district investigation and later fired in February 2014.
Now he’s been found guilty of professional misconduct by a three person panel appointed by the Commissioner for Teacher Regulation.
The panel has now asked the commissioner to provide written submissions for an appropriate penalty.
