Yet another voice is joining a chorus in the region asking the Province to review its tolling policy and make it more equitable.
Delta mayor Lois Jackson says the Golden Ears and Port Mann Bridges are losing money and traffic.
“People are staying away in droves. I think that we have to do better than charge $10.00 for a truck to go over a bridge.”
Jackson says with the new Pattullo, and the crossing to replace the Massey Tunnel likely being tolled, it will put massive pressure on the free Alex Fraser.
“Everybody uses bridges. Bridges cost a lot of money. If everybody paid $1, according to the 2011 traffic numbers, we would realize about $378-million a year, and I think we should be looking at that.”
Other mayors and business leaders in the region have been calling for tolling equity for years.
