A fire in a Burnaby high rise at around 10 Sunday night has left some 40 people in the dark.
Assistant Chief Erik Vogel says there was a ‘substantial’ fire in the electrical room, and power had to be cut before they could fight the fire.
He adds he’s not sure when power will be restored to the building, but the people that were evacuated can go back inside their homes.
“We had an electrician show up and it was a little too much for him, and we require [BC] Hydro… so we’re not sure when Hydro’s gonna make it, we know they’re pretty busy tonight.”
Vogel says he doesn’t know if the fire was caused by a power surge due to the storm.
He adds he’s particularly thankful to TransLink – a bus was sent to help keep the evacuated residents warm.
