An elderly Maple Ridge woman who was the victim of a robbery in her hospital bed has passed away, without the cherished diamond ring returned to her finger.
James Pont says his 88-year-old grandmother Grace Marriott passed away peacefully at Surrey Memorial Hospital, eleven days after a thief ripped a diamond ring from her finger that her husband gave her on her 50th birthday.
Pont, says she died without the ring returned to her finger.
“It was sad that she went, she was in a lot of pain, so as sad as it is that she is gone, it is good that there will be no more pain for her.”
Pont hopes part of her legacy will be improved security at the hospital, so no other family has to bare the same pain.
“That being said, she was in an older wing of the hospital, so hopefully in the near future updates will be made to the security cameras in that facility. I’m sure the new facility does have wonderful ones.”
“Hopefully different angles, or just upon entries and exists from the elevators would be good as well if they are unable to rerun the wires in the elevator themselves.”
Pont says police are still looking for the robbery suspect.
