It’s been two months since TransLink began rolling out the new Compass Card system in earnest, and a disabled transit user says he is shocked he is still unable to use his Compass Card for HandyDart service.
Former Vancouver City Councillor Tim Louis says it’s taking a greater chunk out of his wallet.
“I now spend more on transit, I purchase a Compass Card with a bus pass in it for conventional transit, and a non-Compass card, monthly bus pass, the old fashioned type, for the HandyDart. Two monthly bus passes per month.”
Louis says a commitment to equality means a card that can be used system-wide.
TransLink acknowledged the problem in January when it switched all monthly pass holders over to the Compass system, but said it was working to solve it.
The transit authority has not yet responded to a request for comment.
