The Surrey Memorial Hospital is closing several acute care beds.
It’s part of what what has been described as a “Home is Best” plan that will see Fraser Health closing eighty beds across the region — moving patients into the community.
But is there a risk that those patients will fall off the radar?
Fraser Health’s Tasleem Juma says patients won’t be discharged from the hospital, until they’re sure that services are in place at home .
“It might be things like to get equipment so that they can move around their home more securely and easily, it might mean ensuring that the home support hours are in place, the assessments are done, the follow-ups are done.”
