The Chief of the Vancouver Police Department says the new Sunset Beach location for the annual 4/20 pot smoke up is a “more appropriate” option.
Speaking on the Lynda Steele Show, Chief Adam Palmer says it’s purely about the numbers.
“We get tens of thousands of people and as you know that’s going from the Art Gallery down to Sunset Beach and that’s probably a more appropriate venue for it and get it out of the downtown core. It disrupts traffic and problems like that.”
“I get the Park Board concerns totally, it’s one of those things that nobody wants to have in their backyard. I realize there are concerns no matter where it is held so I think moving the site to Sunset Beach is actually a good call.”
The Park Board is not pleased with the move, pointing out that the city’s parks and beaches all have strict non-smoking bylaws.
