Another court delay in the first degree murder trial in connection with the death of Maple Batalia.
Proceedings were supposed to get going today in BC Supreme Court in New Westminster, but were delayed, again.
This time it was the crown seeking more time, just two days to whittle down the number of witnesses they want to call, but the weight of delay after delay visibly wearing on Maple Batalia’s family.
Speaking outside the court, Maple’s father, Harry, struggles to find the words.
“It’s beyond explanation. It’s too much hard for us…a long wait….. it’s gone more than four and a half years now.”
Two men are charged in the death.
“Every day we think ‘what will happen, what will happen, will I get any justice?’ I don’t know.”
The trial is now scheduled to begin Thursday.
