Corrections Service Canada says 30-year-old William Ryan Fisher, one of the last two Stanley Cup rioters to be sentenced, has died while in hospital in New Westminster.
No word on what lead to his death.
He was supposed to carry out a three-year sentence at the Pacific Institution in Abbotsford, for multiple charges, including Taking Part in a Riot and Assault.
The police and coroner have been notified, and will be investigating.
In a release, Correctional Service of Canada says they will review the circumstances of the incident.
William Fisher was handed 36 months in prison, found guilty of aggravated assault for beating up a Good Samaritan.
He and Jeffrey Milne were the last two Stanley cup rioters to be sentenced in court.
