The mayor of Vancouver has sent the Park Board chair an interesting letter regarding relocating the annual pot protest out of the downtown core.
In the letter, Gregor Robertson tells Sarah Kirby-Yung that the marijuana protest has outgrown its downtown location.
But Robertson says this is not a city sanctioned event, and at no point did the city direct the protest organizers to move to Sunset Beach.
Robertson tells Kirby-Yung that if she has any concerns, she should stop directing them to City Hall, and instead take it up with the protest organizers directly.
“If the Park Board has further concerns about the protest, I would encourage you to meet with the organizers directly.”
The mayor also notes if it is held at Sunset Beach, the protest would require fewer city resources.
It’s important to note Park Board regulations have a strict no-smoking policy on all city beaches, parks, and the seawall.
