It’s been four and a half years, but the family of a Surrey Teen gunned down in an SFU parkade will have to wait a little longer for the trial of two men accused of killing her to begin.
Nineteen year old Maple Batalia was shot to death after a late night study session at the SFU’s Surrey Campus in September 2011.
The trial of her former boyfriend , Gurjinder Dhaliwal, charged with first degree murder, and his associate Gursimar Bedi, charged with manslaughter and being an accessory after the fact, was supposed to begin today in BC Supreme Court in New Westminster.
Dhaliwal sat stoic in the prisoners box , dressed in a black suit and cleanly shaven , and his alleged victims family members looked on.
Defence asked the judge for an adjournment until Tuesday, March 1st.
It’s expected the trial will be heard before a judge, not a jury.
