Refugee resettlement is solely a federal government responsibility, so BC’s Premier isn’t making any more promises to kick in extra cash.
It comes as the province braces for a surge of an additional 1,100 government-assisted Syrian refugees.
It’s more than the Immigrant Services Society of BC serves in a year.
Last year Christy Clark announced 1-million dollars towards resettlement services, but it doesn’t look like that will happen again.
“So the million dollars we’ve set aside is money we decided that we were going to add to the pot of the federal government, even though it is a 100% a federal government responsibility. But in addition to that, we are funding every child who comes into our public school system, and funding the medical care people will require.”
More than 1700 Syrians have arrived in BC since November 4th.
