A recommendation is expected to be made to the Metro Vancouver Board to ask the B.C. government for an extension to review the Massey Tunnel Replacement Bridge proposal, amid concerns over infrastructure, the environment, and tolling.
Meanwhile one MLA is recommending an idea that may not sit well with users on Vancouver’s other bridges.
Saying it’s unfair for just a few residents to pay for a project that benefits everyone, independent MLA for Delta South, Vicki Huntington says she would like to see a toll on all bridges in the greater Vancouver region, including some of those that currently don’t have tolls on them.
“People of Vancouver might have to pay a toll to go over the Granville Street bridge, certainly they benefit from bridges such as this as much as the rest of the community does.”
Metro Vancouver staff are asking for two months to further review the project.
