A few dozen West-enders, many of them seniors fearful of losing health care services in their neighborhood, turned up to the first of eight community forums on the controversial plan to move St.Paul’s Hospital to the False Creek flats.
Executive Director of the West End Seniors Network, Anthony Kupferschmidt, told the crowd says he wants to see the retention of emergency services on the existing site.
“Certainly concerned about retention of existing clinics such as the heart clinic and the falls clinic etc. concerned about community outreach clinics for example like geriatric psychiatry, you want to be based in the community where you are to do outreach in that community so I think that is really important.”
While Providence Health wants the gather public feedback, it remains committed to the 1.2 billion dollar plan to move and expand the hospital near Chinatown.
