In an effort to ease hours of backlog on and around the Alex Fraser Bridge, Delta’s mayor says more cops are being put in the area to make sure drivers aren’t taking illegal shortcuts to avoid traffic.
Lois Jackson has seen the traffic, and she’s been caught in it too.
“That island was built for industrial use, for businesses. Unfortunately, we’ve had the route runners using the island to shortcut the lineups which are seen entering onto the Annacis Island bridge.”
Jackson says she’s heard the concerns of businesses and police officers will be ticketing drivers who try to take the Annacis Island off ramp and make an illegal turn to skip through hours of traffic.
“Two to three police officers, three hours a day, they’ll be ticketing everyday. The unfortunate part of it is the safety aspects as well.”
They’ll be out several hours a day to enforce the rules.
