Police are investigating an overnight rampage by vandals in the Burke Mountain area, and aren’t ruling out a hate crime.
About 25 cars were vandalized in just a few hours.
But Coquitlam RCMP say they’re concerned about one example in particular — a swastika keyed into one of the vehicles.
Const. Jamie Phillipson says right now, officers are focusing on identifying the suspects.
“Once we can do that we can sit down with these people that did this, determine what the motivation was behind putting that swastika in. Then that may direct the investigation into either a hate crime investigation or somebody that was inciting hate by using a symbol, a universal symbol that represents hatred.”
Police are asking people in the 3300 block of Highland Avenue to provide any surveillance footage.
