Juno. Vimy. Justice. Mason.
Those are the four names shortlisted for the VPD Mounted Unit’s newest and youngest member, a four-year-old Clydesdale.
According to a Cst.Conrad Van Dyk, the key is finding a horse with the right mind, and then everything else is training.
“He is curious, which is something not all horses have. He seems to be patient, he’s willing tot wait without being too pushy, without being demanding, without being scared. He doesn’t seem mischievious, some of our horses are a little bit mischievious, he’s not.”
The Clydesdale will now begin to get training in troupe drills, as well as training with other horses in formation for protests, demonstrations and riots.
His usual beat will be patrolling Stanley Park and the West End.
Officers and staff have narrowed the name selection down to four possibilities and now it’s up to the public to make the final decision by voting.
The winning name will be announced on February 23rd
On February 22nd, those who voted for the most popular name will be entered into a draw for a visit to the VPD stables to meet the new recruit.
