The first five weeks of 2016 have seen a staggering increase in refugees arriving to Europe by sea.
Last year set a record for the numbers, and it’s likely that record will be surpassed again.
The first four days of February have already seen more refugees arrive in Greece than all of February last year.
The International Organization for Migration says so far this year, 2,000 migrants are arriving in Europe by sea on average each day.
That’s ten times the daily average of refugees who arrived in Europe last year.
More than 76,000 migrants arrive in Europe already this year
Another 409 have died attempting the journey.
Even more worrying the exodus continues with tens of thousands fleeing Syria to Turkey, which is being pressured to open its border.
Turkey says it can’t take anymore with more than two million refugees in the country since it became the jumping off point for many refugees attempting to reach Europe.
