Officials now say 10 people are dead and about 90 others injured after two regional trains crashed head-on Tuesday morning in southern Germany, near Bad Aibling in Bavaria.
According to the Associated Press, police spokesman Stefan Sonntag says the trains crashed on the single track between Rosenheim and Holzkirchen shortly before 7 a.m.
“This is the biggest accident we have had in years in this region and we have many emergency doctors, ambulances and helicopters on the scene,” Sonntag said.
The crash happened in a densely wooded and hilly area.
Water police ferried the injured across a river to waiting ambulances and helicopters.
One person is still missing.
