A family of six that was stranded at the Sun Peaks ski resort has been rescued.
Alan Hobler of Kamloops Search and Rescue says the family went out of bounds while skiing and into avalanche territory
“They thought that they would just ski a little bit out of bounds and that would take them back to the villagte. They didn’t realize that the direction they were going was actually taking them further away.”
Hobler says unfortunately skiers going out of bounds is all too common.
“I think people just don’t quite appreciate the risk of what happens when you dock the ropes in ski areas.”
The family had been waiting to be rescued since 3:00 pm this afternoon. The children in the family ranged in age between six and 13.
Hobler says no one was injured and the family realizes what they did was very dangerous.
