Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada will end its bombing mission against the Islamic State by February 22nd.
The Prime Minister says Canada views ISIS differently than how they want to be seen.
“ISIL would like us to see them as a credible threat to our way of life and our civilization. We know Canada is stronger than the threat posed by a murderous gang of thugs who are terrorizing some of the most vulnerable people on Earth.”
However, Trudeau says military personnel will increase in region to 830, up from the current 650.
“It is important to understand while air strike operations can be useful to achieve short-term military and territorial gains, they do not on their own achieve long-term stability for local communities.”
That, in order to provide more assistance in the training and planning of Iraqi security forces.
The Liberals had made a pre-election pledge to pull Canada’s six CF-18 fighter jets out of the US-led mission in Iraq and Syria.
