How do you spend 3 million dollars if you’ve taken a life long vow of poverty?
The sisters of Saint Ann have always lived an austere life.
But as the sisters aged and no longer maintained active ministries, money started to build up.
“Because we have a vow of poverty, we’ve always pooled our resources, but as we’ve no longer been able to engage in active ministry, then some of those resources started to accumulate.”
They’ve now made a 3 million dollar donation to Saint Marks, a Catholic Theological college associated with UBC.
Sister Marie Zarowny says supporting the school will help the next generation find faith.
“I think many young people today are searching, so I think there’s quite an interest in looking at a theology that’s in tune with the world.”
The donation is largest ever to the college.
It memorializes the founder of the congregation – Marie Esther Blondin.
