The influx of Syrian refugee children to B.C. schools has the BC Teachers Federation asking the province for extra funding to ease the transition.
At an event in Vancouver, Education Minister Mike Bernier told reporters they’re working on it.
“As we’re seeing Syrian refugees come in, one of the things we did commit to was ensuring we would fund those positions and students that are coming in, as if it was any other student here in British Columbia. But really, the communication has been around the support mechanisms that are needed.”
Bernier echoes BCTF president Jim Iker’s comments that the province wants what’s best for the new arrivals.
