Premier Christy Clark tops the list of fiscal performers against other Canadian premiers, according to a new report from the Fraser Institute .
Clark’s 78.5 rating just narrowly beating out Quebec’s Philippe Couillard at 78.2.
Coming in last of the premiers still in office is Ontario’s Kathleen Wynne at 61.4.
But the institute’s fiscal director, Charles Lammam, denies the timing of the report has anything to do with Wynne’s government facing a byelection in a few days .
“No, we are a research organisation, we’re not politically affiliated with anyone. I would point out that if you look at the top two performers. They’re both from Liberal parties.”
Lammam says Clark just narrowly beating Couillard may come as a surprise .
“These two provinces historically have had trouble with fiscal management, so it is a bit surprising.”
The rankings are based on how the institute says they performed on taxes, government spending, and debt.
