The controversy over former UBC president Arvind Gupta’s resignation — and the academic politics around it — continued on Tuesday as staff and students protested at a board of governors meeting.
Professor Jennifer Berdahl led around 70 demonstrators inside the Alumni Centre. About got inside the board room, holding signs quietly as the board members continued to talk.
Faculty association president Mark Maclean explained why the protesters want an external review of the board.
“The kind of dark, behind-the-scenes, under-the-table dealings that the board was having with the president right down to the end, where a small group of board leadership were declaring themselves an ad-hoc committee that we don’t even know is duly constituted, in order to oust the president from the board.”
Leaked documents depict some board members heavily criticizing Gupta’s leadership before he resigned last August.
