As the Vancouver School Board looks at closing some schools due to declining enrollment… it’s left with a handful of others bursting at the seams.
In a report to the school board’s Planning and Facilities Committee staff recommend the staff room at Henry Hudson elementary in Kitsilano be converted into a classroom just to accommodate catchment area students.
Staff also suggest adding a portable at Fraser Elementary in Mount Pleasant to combat the same problem.
Yet at the same time, another report to the Management Coordinating Committee shows a projection of 248 fewer K-12 students across the district for the 2016/2017 school year.
Last week trustees unanimously passed a plan that could lead to the closure of 13 schools in an effort to secure provincial funding for badly needed seismic upgrades.
