A new bus service begins rolling this Monday on ferry services from Victoria to Vancouver.
The Wilson’s Group, which was awarded the contract late last year, will be taking starting Monday. Instead of every sailings, the buses will be rolling on three.
It marks the end of an era for Vancouver-based Pacific Coast Lines, after 77 workers were told they were being laid off because PCL was losing the contract with BC Ferries amid talk of a looming labour dispute.
Wilson’s Group general manager Joe Janssen says a couple of former PCL drivers have been hired already.
“We have a fairly good stable process in place where we interview and review their resumes and so forth and they certainly will be eligible in that process.”
Janssen says the schedule starting Monday will be the same as this week, which will increase over summer.
