Firefighters tacked a house fire in Burnaby on Thursday morning.
Smoke was swirling like a thick fog around the three-storey home in the 7500-block of Burgess, just off Canada Way.
Burnaby Assistant Fire Chief Rick Weir says it appears the fire got going in an attached garage and then spread to the home.
“Our crews arrived at 7:30 this morning to find the garage portion of the house fully involved, with heavy extensions into floors 1, 2, and 3.”
One person had to be evacuated by crews.
“We had one person on the roof on the backside of the house. He was taken down from the roof.”
An elderly man was sent to hospital for smoke inhalation. Everyone else got out okay, but the house is a total loss.
Weir says they don’t yet know the cause.
Neighbours say someone might have been living in the garage.
