The Law Society of BC has suspended Vancouver lawyer Catherine Sas after it says she wrongfully took money from clients.
Sas, who represented such clients as Randy and Evie Quaid, is slated to serve her suspension starting March 1, and must pay costs of $32,000.
The society says Sas previously worked as a sole practitioner, then joined a law firm in 2011.
While practicing on her own, she held money in trust, which the society says she kept with her when she joined the law firm.
Later in 2011, Sas billed clients for disbursements that had not been incurred, and paid, to her law corporation, money held in trust for those clients.
A hearing panel found Sas wrongfully took $1,947 from 23 clients in order to clean up the accounting records relating to her sole practice from that trust.
Sas is appealing the decision.
