“We believe it would be in excess of a couple hundred-thousand-dollars between the boats and the property that was stolen. A lot of that has been recovered, thankfully.”
Vancouver Police believe they have put a stop to a six-month string of thefts and break and enters in the city’s harbour, and nearby coastal islands.
Constable Janet Stringer says two men have been arrested after she says they stole from boats and boats themselves, which were used to reach island cabins.
Stringer says 35-year-old Jeremy Walker, and 39-year-old Liam Fell are facing a number of theft and weapons charges.
“It appears they would bring the items back to land in a small boat. They had access to someone’s vehicle, as well as used a taxi and walking using a wheelbarrow walking large volumes of property back to the Downtown Eastside.”
She says this serves as a reminder to boat owners to really increase their security.
