The president of an Edmonton-based construction company has had a rough day.
Peter Kiss of Morgan Construction, which has been awarded a lucrative contract for B.C.’s Site C dam, blasted UBC and Queens universities for dumping fossil fuel investments on his social media account.
Kiss declared, “If they can’t support us, we won’t hire your students,” signing the missive “Eat Cows, Drill Oil, Be Albertan.”
After a social media storm, he retracted the comments.
NDP MLA Adrian Dix weighs in
Dix says not only was it discriminatory but also hypocritical.
“So on the one hand he was advocating actively to discriminate against B.C. students. On the other hand he was cashing cheques from a major B.C. public sector contract. I am glad that he has had the good sense to retract that, that is good.”
