Two people are dead after an industrial accident at a lumber yard in New Westminster.
Barb McLintock with the BC Coroner’s Service says they were called to the scene.
“My understanding is that this afternoon the coroner on-call for Fraser and the Lower Mainland was called to a lumber yard in New Westminster.”
“There were two workers who were deceased in what appears to be an industrial accident.”
New Westminster Police say they responded to a workplace accident call at a business in the 200 block of Duncan Street around 1p.m.
“We are not able to discuss the identity of the deceased individuals, as we still need to speak with their families,” stated Media Relations Officer Acting Sergeant Jeff Scott. “This is a very sad and tragic situation that continues to be investigated by our detectives who are working in collaboration with the Coroner Service and Worksafe BC.”
McLintock didn’t provide the names of the workers but says both are in their 60’s.
She adds that WorkSafeBC is also conducting a separate investigation, and further details may not be made available until Monday.
