Syrian refugees suffering from trauma due to the war, will have a free support group in Vancouver they can attend starting February.
Dr. Hamdy El-Rayes from the H.R. Mental Wellness Centre says the support meetings will be in Arabic and free of charge.
He says the bi-weekly sessions can help with post-traumatic stress disorder, depression and anxiety.
“The Syrian refugees have been through traumatic experiences in the past four years and it is devastating and destructive for their mental health and physical health.”
He says they’ve partnered up with health authorities that will be sending them refugees who need support.
El-Rayes says they will guide them through the changes they need to succeed in Canada.
